What is a Boot Camp?
Boot camp is a results-driven strength &
conditioning class that runs 3 times weekly
for 5 weeks, at 60 minutes per session. It
is conducted in a indoor environment
(indoors for the winter),
utilizing a military-style format.
What if I never worked out before, or
haven’t worked out in a while?
Don’t worry. Boot camp is designed for all
fitness levels – whether you work out daily,
or haven’t worked out in years. All
activities are structured so that you can
choose the appropriate intensity for your
fitness level. No one will be asked to
complete more than they are capable of doing
safely, nor will anyone go home
unchallenged. Each day of boot camp will
slightly increase in intensity.
What if I can’t perform a particular
exercise?
Again, don’t worry. We will give you
modified, low-impact exercises as an
alternative.
What is the Pre-Camp Orientation?
PRE-CAMP ORIENTATION IS MANDATORY.
Orientation is where we introduce you to the
boot camp program and our instructors, and
answer any questions you may have. We will
also review your medical history, and let
you know what to bring, and what you can
expect.
We will take a few simple measurements and
measure your body fat to see where you are
prior to beginning camp. The actual
measurements (number of inches) or pounds do
not matter. We want to know how much you
improve during the camp. It's strictly for a
post-camp comparison. These numbers and all
other information will be held in the
strictest confidence.
If you choose not to have your measurements
taken, that is your option, but please keep
in mind that the numbers do not matter. We
just want to be able to measure your
improvement and without prior measurements,
we simply cannot do that.
Finally, we will offer some nutrition tips
to ensure that you have all the tools you
need to eat healthy and speed your progress
- to maximize your results!
What is the cost (investment in me)?
The cost is $115 for Gettysburg Health &
Fitness Gym Members and $155 for
non-members. Eighteen hours with a personal
trainer (all of our instructors are AFAA
Certified Personal Trainers) would cost
between $540 and $720. Boot camp provides
the intensity of a personal training session
with the motivation from a group
environment. You get the best of both worlds
at a fraction of the price!
How long is the program and what is the
schedule?
This is a 5 week program held from November 18
- December 20. Classes will be held Tuesdays,
Thursdays & Saturdays. The morning class is
Tues/Thur 6-7AM & Sat 7-8AM or
10:30-11:30AM & Sat 7-8 AM. The evening
class is Tues/Thur 6:15-7:15PM & Sat 7-8 AM.
Are there make-up classes?
There are no “make-up” classes. However, if
you know you are going to miss your workout,
feel free to attend the other workout that
day. (i.e. If you workout in the morning and
cannot make it one morning, attend the
evening workout that day. Just let the
instructors know so that they are expecting
you.)
What is a class like? What should I expect?
Our course is continuously being developed
to keep motivation levels high. No two
workouts will ever be the same. Not only is
that a mark of a well-designed program, but
it also prevents the boredom that many
people experience after committing to a
long-term fitness regimen. Each boot camp
class starts and finishes together. This
bonds individuals into a group, making it
easier to stay dedicated to the program.
Each class is one hour in duration. It
begins with a good warm-up – consisting of
calisthenics and total body flexibility
exercises to prepare your system for the
upcoming session, followed by a workout that
combines strength, agility, cardiovascular
endurance, and flexibility exercises, and
ending with exercises to cool the body down.
Fitness assessments are performed at the
beginning and the end of the six week
program to gauge each person’s strength and
endurance improvement.
Will you yell at us?
We only yell motivating, positive
affirmations. We convince, we do not
confront. Our goal is to keep you focused on
the task at hand, not to abuse or harass
you.
What do I need to get started?
You will need a water bottle, mat, good
running shoes, loose, comfortable clothing
that you can exercise in, and sun screen for
when we are outside. You may want to bring a
small towel.
Will I be sore?
Most people feel soreness for the first 2-3
days. After that point, it is slight to
moderate. Its part of the process that lets
you improve! Don't focus on the discomfort.
Focus on the fact that your body is
responding, and you are getting results! We
shake it up so the workouts don't get stale,
and your body doesn't completely adapt.
What about the weather?
During inclement weather – driving rain,
thunderstorms, etc – we will still be conducting
activities indoors at Gettysburg Health & Fitness.
What will I get out of it?
Dramatic improvements in your physical
well-being and self confidence
Increased strength and endurance
Loss of inches and a firmer body
Motivation and inspiration from your coaches
and fellow campers
Six weeks of fun, energizing activities
Nutritional tips to speed your progress
