On January 1, 2012, I was faced with a decision to either change my life and begin to live it once again, or succumb to the various ailments that were beginning to stack against me. I chose to change. Here is my story of the past 10 months.
I had been trying to walk and lose weight in the fall of 2011, to no avail. I would come home winded, sore, and unable to move. My doctor determined that I had Fibromyalgia and that was the source of my pain. I had earlier been diagnosed with COPD (asthma and emphysema) and also had 2 vertebrae in my neck that were herniated. Along with that, I was at my highest weight ever and wearing a 20W bottom and a 1X top. I was literally a mess.
A friend suggested I try Bootcamp at Gettysburg Health and Fitness with her. I was extremely hesitant to say the least! I was obese, had all these health issues, and really, the women that did that already were in shape! However, my anger at how far I had let myself go and the mess I was in physically won out, and I began Bootcamp on January 7, 2012.
Was it hard? OMG yes! Was I out of breath? Oh yeah! Was I sore for days? Yes, yes, yes. Was I intimidated? Of course. Did I see results? YES ma’am!
I went and listened and learned and did whatever I could to keep up. Of course, I couldn’t do everything every time. But, the trainers were there to help me to find “my” way through the exercise routines, and encouraged me to use the gym for the classes and equipment to continue exercising beyond the three days a week of Bootcamp. I learned early on to not compare myself. This was MY battle and MY life and MY body. It’s different than anyone else’s. I also began to track all of my calories in and out in order to be accountable to myself that I was doing everything I could to become fit for once in my adult life.
At GH&F, I found a place where I could belong, get the help I needed, get the motivation to keep going, and I found the results I was looking for. Everyone at the gym is there for you. They truly care about helping you achieve the results you are looking for. After nine months (and please know I’m not done yet!) I’ve lost over 61# and over 33.5” overall. I am now in a size 12 pants and a medium top. And, more importantly to me, my overall health is tremendously better. I’ve not used an inhaler once in the past 9 months! My cholesterol is down 23 points, and my blood sugar is down 13 points, among other great test results. My doctor is amazed!
Trying a new program is intimidating. It’s hard, I know. I’ve been in your shoes. I’m worth it. You are worth it!
Hi, my name is Brianna and I am a member at Gettysburg Health & Fitness. I have always struggled with being overweight. I tried to lose weight quite a few times and succeeded, only to end up losing motivation and gaining it back. In August 2011, I finally decided enough is enough. I asked my mom (Shelly) what to do. She said that I should try out some fitness calsses with her at Gettysburg Health & Fitness. I tried BodyCombat, BodyStep and BodyPump. I enjoyed all of them, but really enjoyed BodyCombat! To this day, BodyCombat is my favorite class!
After finding out that exercise can acutally be fun (who would have thought?!), I decided to go to a Ladies Boot Camp class with my mom. It was brutal! Probably one of the most intense workouts I have ever had. So of course, I signed up! It was the best thing I could have done for myself. I have reached life long goals of being able to run a full mile to running my first 5K with some amazing ladies from Boot Camp. I have lost 40 pounds so far and am still going strong. I feel GREAT! Thanks to the support and motivation from the wonderful staff and instructors at Gettysburg Health & Fitness, I am reaching my goals and still have many more in my sight. I didn't think I could do it, but I did. You can too!
"My name is Amy and I would like to tell you how well Ladies Boot Camp at Gettysburg Health and Fitness worked for me.
I was very hesitant to sign up, I thought there is no way that I could do it, but I signed up. On day one I couldn’t do a sit up or a push up but I stuck with it. Everyday got a little easier and now I can do sit ups and push ups like I have done them my whole life.
I started the program in October 2010 and since have lost 50 lbs and countless inches and my health has improved. I feel amazing!
I chose Boot Camp because I wanted a change and a challenge, someone to push me. I wanted to be held accountable, no excuses as to why I couldn’t go to the gym, like I had done with so many previous gym memberships.
I thought an all-ladies group was the greatest thing in the world. I was already overweight and insecure and the last thing I wanted to do was go work out next to a bunch of bodybuilders at the gym. Here was a group of ladies who are or have gone through the same feelings as me.
The other reason I choose boot camp was having the one on one time. The groups are small because there are several times available for the classes so it’s like having a personal trainer who makes sure you are working out correctly and can answer any questions you have.
Ladies Boot Camp has changed my life. It’s helped me become stronger, healthier, and confident. I could never thank Stef, Christy, Leah or Jess enough, they gave me a second chance at life. I hope that I can inspire you, like they have inspired me.
